SOUL CONTRACTS

As spirit having a human experience, we incarnate in a body to further our soul’s journey, to love, to learn and to overcome challenges. We also need to be able to experience different perspectives, for example, victim/abuser.

To do this, we need some sort of guidance and structure to help us achieve our goals. That’s where soul contracts come in. We all have our own Spirit Council, who oversee the ‘big picture’ of each incarnation.

Everyone has a ‘soul group’ as well- a ‘family of souls’ that they incarnate with most often. Within this group, different roles are played during each incarnation, depending on what each soul has agreed to experience. For example, your mother in one life may be your best friend in another; your child in your current life may have been your sister in the past. Some souls stay in your soul group for many lifetimes, others may come in for one or two lives to help you overcome a difficult challenge or address a karmic issue.

To use a theatre analogy, your soul group are the actors and your Spirit Council are the directors of the performance. The ‘play’ is the sequence of events in each incarnation. What determines these events? The soul contracts you make between each of the other players generates the drama!

These soul contracts are non-physical, binding agreements you make to allow you to experience a particular challenge or difficulty, and they are made on the soul level of your consciousness. They may be positive or negative (for example, experiencing great wealth or poverty), difficult or relatively easy, but they ALL will help you to grow as a soul, and they ALL provide some kind of teaching or lesson that you can take forward with you.

Soul contracts are not time-sensitive, and you have as long as you need to complete it. Due either to circumstances beyond your control or inability on your part to overcome the challenge, some contracts are not fulfilled in one lifetime. In this case, they carry over to the next, and the next, and the next until completion. Sometimes it takes thousands of years before circumstances are right! If you try to dodge, or side step opportunities to learn a lesson, that lesson will keep recurring, getting progressively harder until you face up to it.

Although the Law of Karma dictates you have to fulfil your agreements, you still have free will in how the experience will unfold.

It would be easy if we all incarnated with a clear memory of our karmic obligations and a copy of our soul contracts, but unfortunately for us, we go through a ‘Veil of Forgetfulness’ before birth, which clears our memory of anything we have agreed to.

So how on earth do we navigate our lives without a clue about what we are supposed to be working on?

The main indicators we have are problems- relationship issues indicate we have karma with the other person to deal with; money issues may point to vows of poverty we have taken; emotional issues may show us where we need to address painful behaviour patterns we feel comfortable in. Often recurring patterns, such as abusive relationships, show us what we need to look at and change within ourselves.

Luckily we have our Higher Selves, our spirit guides and angelic assistance if we need it.

In general, you don’t need to worry about consciously resolving soul contracts. Provided you are acting consciously when you make decisions, trust your Higher Self to guide you. If you want to step back and look at your life subjectively, you will, however, be able to spot behaviour patterns, limiting beliefs or emotional blocks that are perhaps derailing you.

When I heal people, I find soul contracts, vows and agreements on their back. If a soul contract is playing out or still impacting the events in the current life IT CANNOT BE REMOVED. Most soul contracts, however, come from past lives and are no longer relevant.

However, their effects may still be felt. For example, you may still have relationship issues with a person in your life who no longer needs to be there, but the old soul contract could be binding you together in an unhealthy way.

Another scenario might be that the person is meant for you, but the old contract may be causing them to behave inappropriately. I found this recently in a couple I was working with. They had been together through many lifetimes and were ‘meant to be’, but there both still had old soul contracts from a life they had experienced as husband and wife hundreds of years ago. The husband in this life had been brutal and violent and the wife submissive and frightened. Although neither of them in this life fitted the abuser/victim profiles, there were ‘flashes’ of domineering behaviour in him and ‘flashes’ of submissive behaviour in her. After the contracts were removed, equilibrium in the relationship was restored.

Vows made in past lives are also a form of contract, and again have the power to affect a soul many lifetimes on from they were made. I see these often in my work, and they generally come from lifetimes where someone was a nun or a monk. The three vows that crop up together in these cases are vows of chastity, poverty and obedience.

The vow of poverty often means that no matter what, you cannot make ends meet. Once that vow is removed, abundance can return.

The vow of chastity is a tricky one. I usually find it affects women through gynaecological issues, for example, polycystic ovaries or endometriosis. It doesn’t preclude the person from sexual activity, it just makes sex painful, difficult and impacts fertility. Men may be infertile or have some kind of chronic issue with their reproductive system.

The vow of obedience generally predisposes the person to unquestioning belief in either religion, government or a school of thought.

If only people knew how binding vows were! I have removed spirit attachments of old lovers from people from lifetimes ago, because they vowed ‘I’ll never leave you.’

Demonic entities can attach through contracts made in a past life during Satanic rituals and ceremonies, where they were actively invited in. Unless they are removed and the contract destroyed, they can remain indefinitely.

Addiction and tobacco spirits, as discussed in my ‘Addictions’ blog, also make contracts with the soul aspect of your consciousness. These also need to be removed and released. I have found addiction spirits in non-addicted people from lifetimes ago, dormant in the current life unless activated.

So what happens when you complete a lesson and fulfil your contract?

The Universe will test you to see if you truly have integrated the lesson. It will throw a few more scenarios your way to see how you react. If you display your recently acquired skill showing you have made progress, you ‘level up’. If you have missed the mark, you might find yourself responding in the same way an ‘older version’ of you might have responded. Have another try, but respond differently!

Why do terrible things like child abuse happen?

As uncomfortable as it sounds, souls choose their path for a reason. With child abuse for example, it may be that the person is learning a lesson about shame. He or she may use the experience to inspire or heal others who have suffered in the same way. It may be a lesson in bravery: speaking out to put the perpetrator behind bars.

As you muddle through your karmic obligations and life lessons, be aware that help is all around you. Connect with the Divine, your Higher Self or guides. Remember that to receive help, all you have to do is ASK!
